The White Fang is well located for someone travelling the long road north of Superior. It was scrupulously clean on both occasions we stayed there, and the staff communications were friendly, efficient and flexible.

Great staff, charming-rustic decor with a clean fully modern bathroom. Loved the chairs and barbecues outside for patrons to use.

I was doing a tour around Lake Superior, and this was the nicest place I stayed. Just south of Wawa, set in the forest and beautifully maintained. My spacious log cabin was perfect. Even a beautiful large bathroom. Great off-season price, particularly for Americans.

The location was fine, just slightly off the highway and not difficult to get to. The muffins and coffee for breakfast were good and a nice start to the day. We arrived late and they were very accommodating for our late arrival. The rooms with two beds were rather crowded but it was neat and clean so no problem for an overnight stay.

It was smaller than I expected, but very friendly and quaint, and easy to navigate. I had a great time looking through the thrift shop and met wonderful people at the roadside restaurant called Krazy Fries. Food was great too!
I was able to pick up all the supplies I needed for my trip, and had dinner at the sub shop on my last night.

Beach and snowmobile trail enjoyable.
Beach and snowmobile trail enjoyable. Main road set up well with sidewalks; wide area of interlocking stone in downtown area with many benches to suit people of all abilities. North of 17 restaurant had very good food at a reasonable price. The Chinese restaurant was not as good as I expected and they only had take out.

The beach was lovely.
The beach was lovely. The Goose was the main attraction, and that took about 15 minutes. The facilities at this location should be closed. It was really really nasty and stink. The Tim Hortons was closed cause they did not have enough staff on the night we arrived. Subway was awesome. Customers in the Tim Hortons walked around without masks, walked up to the counter and checked out all the breakfast meals that were partially there as they were being setup. NO ONE HAD ANY OBJECTIONS TO ANY OF THIS!

This was the last leg of a road trip in an EV Chevy Bolt from Southern Ontario to Northwest British Columbia.
The booking was made late when I decided Wawa would be the stop for the night.
With a late booking, you do not expect a lot.
The room was very nice.
Had a great sleep and an early start.
Plus a Petro-Canada Fast Charger was close.

I was surprisingly happy with our experience at the big bird...
I was surprisingly happy with our experience at the big bird inn. Previous reviews were less then flattering. The property is undergoing renovations. We stayed in one of the “new rooms.” It was clean and fresh looking. Bathroom is big and modern in style. Laminate floors felt clean to walk on. I wish there were more convenient plug ins, to charge my phone and electronics.
The parking lots was pretty full, so I was worried about the hotel being nosey. We were able to sleep just fine, without hearing nose from other rooms.
There was a mini fridge in the room, but no coffee maker. However there was a coffee station in the lobby area by the front desk.
The town of Wawa is small and industrial. Expecting a 5 star hotel is not going to happen. The Big Bird Inn was a great little hotel for a family stop over, as we drive across Canada. The staff were pleasant, room was clean, beds were ok to sleep on (though very high for kids). What more can a person ask for?! I would recommend the big Bird inn to others.
Btw the Tim Norton’s (down the street) opens at 4am of you want coffee before you hit the road.

Nature spectacular.
Nature spectacular. Wawa lake was very peaceful and not at all crowded. Unlike Lake Superior, it was very warm and swimmable. They do a brilliant job of displaying the history of the town and the boom and bust cycles (presently more towards the latter). Really humanises the place. Hiking is not as plentiful as other areas unless you include Lake Superior Prov Park. And running into bears on walks out of town is a constant possibility.
A quirky little motel in the lovely little town of Wawa.
The man that runs the motel was very friendly and helpful. They have freshly baked muffins and coffee in the office every morning, delicious 😋.
There was a fridge and microwave in our room and the bed was very comfortable.
Only a 5 to 10 minute walk from the town, with The Viking restaurant across the road, serving great meals and drinks.
This motel is a hidden gem. We just about passed it on Hwy 17 westbound just before Wawa. Thankfully, our navigation system gave us an alert. The Mystic Isle is on a rise over the Hwy. First visual appearances promoted a "Wow" from the back seat. The rooms were visually appealing, well appointed, and extremely clean. If your stopping in Wawa this is a great spot.
I've been coming here for years as I've traveled through Ontario on different occasions, both alone and with my wife. Beautiful rustic rooms, cleanliness, and great customer service by the owners are always guaranteed. The location is a short walk from the grocery store, restaurants, town center, and Wawa Lake.
The Property was clean. Beds were very comfy. Great Staff. Easy Check In. Was Quiet. Not much for TV but being in such a remote area of Northern Ontario was to be expected. They Offer coffee and cookies in the lobby in the morning. close to restaurants but they close early. Most before 6 pm.
This is the best location, by far, for a hotel in Wawa- truly amazing view. We have been travelling here for over 50 years and Wawa is simply the best place to vacation and the drive up from Sault Ste. Marie is most likely, the most scenic, in all of North America.
Room was very modern on the intern, clean and bright. Location was fantastic, parking was ample and there was an area for snacks and beverages. The location also felt very safe and secure. If I am in the Wawa area again, I would be sure to stay at this location.
This was the most incredibly well kept motel/ hotel/ cabin/ place to stay I have ever stayed in. Everything was in immaculate condition. No dust. No cobwebs. No peeling ceiling paint. No chips in the furniture. No flies in the fixtures.
This hotel is a unique treasure. It has seen better days but is clean, welcoming and full of kitsch. We loved it. It is right across the street from a great Chinese restaurant and the lake boardwalk. There’s a lively bar in the hotel.
Beautifully renovated rooms! The beds were super comfortable. Loved that hot water, tea, coffee and cookies were available 24 hours in the main lobby.
Wawa is beautiful and everything you need is in walking distance.
A jewel of a hotel outside of WAWA. Sometimes you look at a hotel/motel and think it might not be up to your liking and then you stay there and are pleasantly SURPRISED! Definitely would stay again and refer friends.
We did not expect such a nice room at such a cheap price. The Manager, Cliff, was a gentlemen in every way. We paid more for a fancy hotel in Thunder Bay, but did not get the service and ammenities of Algoma Motel.
The owners of this hotel were helpful. They gave us a free room upgrade to allow us to be right across from our friends room. We booked 2 queen bed rooms. They were really big and comfortable.
Really nice room, renovated. Super clean, very comfortable. Definitely the nicest motel I've stayed in. Owner was exceptionally nice. I will be staying here next time I'm in Wawa.
